Last week saw the Comms2Point0 UnAwards 2015 which we were more than happy to support.
Expectations were high, but we were blown away by the talent that gathered in such a small but lovely space in Birmingham. It was an outstanding effort courtesy of Dan and Darren and all those who took part and just goes to show that you don't need to spend a fortune on big awards ceremonies. More fun was had and many alliances were formed and strengthened.
The most thrilling part was seeing that people were genuinely pleased to have been nominated, let alone shortlisted or win awards.
I had the great pleasure of judging the Best Use of Crisis Comms category and it was probably the toughest thing I've had to do. So much passion and talent in difficult circumstances. I could have given everyone a prize. You can read more about my experience of it in my blog post for Comms2Point0.
Meeting so many new people that I had heard so much about was the real pleasure of the day. Sharing experiences and learning in an informal atmosphere really gave me a lot of food for thought and also proved to me that public sector communicators really aren't given the credit they deserve. Most importantly, I learnt so much from the event and was genuinely humbled by some of the experiences people shared with me and under such stressful circumstances.
There will be another event next year and MusterPoint will most certainly be there wholeheartedly supporting and encouraging those who feel they don't deserve praise to come forward and do exactly what they are good at - communicating success and achievement.
